Mash: Yahoo Social Networking Site !
Having seen Google and MSN, the leading competitors of Yahoo!, take up the majority of stakes in the social networking arena, now Yahoo also jumps into the ring.
With Mash !
Mash is available at http://mash.yahoo.com/
(Note that www.mash.yahoo.com takes you to nowhere!)
Not a compelling name though! - for the ubiquitous mallus, this name might get them back to school/college days for obvious reasons :-)
This is not the first time that Yahoo has tried its hands at social networking. The first one was a BIG flop, and comes by the name Yahoo 360. What lacked here, was the graphic appeal, and content flexibility. Mash aims at solving all this to get more user base. And the buzz says that Yahoo 360 and mash will work totally independent of each other so that the fans of 360 (if any) can continue using it. To my best knowledge, there would be 360 fans only in the Gulf countries (coz all other scl n/w sites are blocked here) :-D
Having said all this, if you hav already followed the mash link above, you would be left disappointed, just like me.. Coz it is in the early testing phase, and no sign-ups are allowed. You get to login, only by invitation! The same 'testing trick' that google had also adopted for its gmail. Even Yahoo had trid this for its yahoo mail beta..
Anyways, if everything goes well, you can get to be involved in a discussion that talks about 'mashing', like what used to happen with 'orkutting' !
