Travelogue - Bole Tho Bolero
What a weird name for a travelogue ?! Doesnt give a clue wht it is all about , where the trip was to ... Well, the title is lifted from the dialogue of a popular film of that time - Munna Bhai MBBS. The hero's famous saying is "Bole Tho..."
OK. Thats abou the first part.. What aboout the last word ? Thats the name of the vehicle on which we made the trip - simple :)
So here starts the write-up.....
Note:
1. ShivaSamudra/Talacaud Travelogue
2. Lots of Malayalam words inline. Can be ignored by non-mallus
3. Characters are not fictitous. They are REAL :D
After collecting all the guyz, the trip officially started at 5.45AM
Kiron in the driving seat. He too got up early in the morning. That is some creditable achievement for this fella :-)
Jins set out a burst of laughter among the others when he asked, after 15 minutes of
travel, "Nammal engottaa povunney ?"
Then it was Dipu's turn. He had already found a cozy little sleeping space in the back
of the Bolero. Whenever there is a bump, jerk, this guy would get up and ask for "Chaaya.. Eda.. ethiyille chaayakkada ? Common fund alle ?"
Aanatham was very smart. He knew very well, that if ever he opened he opened his mouth, he is in trouble. So he started sleeping straight away.
George was seated next to the driver - Kiron. And he suffered badly ;-)
If you have any technical doubts on Bolero, just contact george!
After an hour's ride, reached Kanakapura.
3 of us ordered idli. 4 ordered chow chow baath. CCB is basically a mix of normal upma plus sweet upma.
When he brought the so-called idli, it left 3 of us spell-bound. Dhoddali enna vaakkine
anwarthamaakkaan paakathinulla oru item. Idliyude thickness , and doshayude radius.
Pinne vere vazhi onnum illaathathu kondu athu njannikkondirunnu.
When the turn came to pay the bill, 'the computer again (yet again) chose Rat to keep the (burden of) Common Fund' :-S
Coorg trip-inte kaashu ithu vare pirinju kittiyilla.. Ini ithum koode.. Njaan vere valla panikkum povendi varum, if this trend continues !
Started for ShivaSamudra.
Reached at 9.30. Boy ! That is some place worth watching ! Just take a look at the snaps (not attached)*
There is a view point, pretty far from the falls.
FYi, the falls is actually called Gagana Chukki Falls , which according to Rat , translates to 'Ambara Chumbi' Falls.
Beautiful view from the view point !
There was a fence in place with a board on it. It said "Danger Zone:Dont cross the fence"
Okay. Good advise. Cross we did and took a real close look at the falls.
How close, you'll get to know when you see Jins virtually standing IN the falls !
After some bit of rock climbing (Lakshya style), we set out for the top of the falls.
That requires a few kilometers to be covered in Bolero.
On the way, stopped at a place, where there are lots of crabs.
Well, according to Kiron, that is :-)
Crab kidannidathu pooda polum illaayirunnu !
Oduvil avidunnu oro pazham adichu, back to top of the falls.
A bit late, but note, we did that the fuel gauge is still in sleepy mood.
It is resting on the E (E for Enuff, according to Dipu) of the gauge !
Alarm!!
Next 12 kilometers, in a different direction to find a Petrol Pump.
not exactly; to find a Diesel pump. Finally found one and setlled for 30 odd litres.
The place was very close to nature.
Very much.
If you wanna see man living in close harmony with nature, go there.
There was shit everywhere !
After making some precarious moves in and around the falls, and taking some pix, we decided to get back. Coz all were hungry like anything.
Back to Bolero.
This was the bad part of the trip.
No hotel anywhere to be seen. Sand had warned of this. Our mistake..
A board was seen somewhere "End of Village Limit"
And the roads ahead couldnt even be called a road. So we wondered, if not a village, what is this ???
Hours of travel (or so it felt) we reached some halli
It had an SBI bank. Neatly closed.
And a Nandini milk outlet. Very much close to a metropolis.
Oru hotel-il keri. Had lunch - pachhari chor + saambaar + papad + achhar.
But for the bill, everything was bad. The bill was just 56 for 7 of us.
Pinne vayaru niraykkaan vendi pazhavum, pepsiyum chlormintum ellaam vaangi thinnu.
Common fund alle.. Aaarum vittu koduthilla :-)
Next destination was Thalacaud.
This is a temple town. This place has a lot of temples surrounded by sand dunes.
Long back these temples were submerged in water.
And people excavated it out. There are a lot of such temples..
The place we went was a mini-swimming pool by nature.
The depth matches that of a pool. just about thigh high.
For Dipu it was his Fore-arm high. That is when he raises his hands up above his head
:D
Aneesh dint get down into water. He was the stuff-keeper.
Lotsa masthi. Some gals too there ;-)
A few gals were on the 'vattathoni'. And the thoni-man rigorously spun the thoni.
We cried out loud to the thoni-man "thoni mukki thannaal 100 roopaa..."
The gals in the thoni replied "200 roopa tharaam.. rakshikkaan.."
:-S
1 hr in water.
Then out. Back to bolero in wet clothes. Changed there.
Now is the time for the return trip. It was about 3.30 then.
When it was tea time, stopped at a bakery.
He had the business of his life time :D
Bakery ethaandu kaaliyaayappo, avidunnu eneettu.
Rat, Dipu 'n Aneesh went out in search of 'pazham'
Found a shop nearby.
Oru kola motham vaangi :D Common fund alle ;)
Aneesh pazhakkolayum thookki nikkana oru padam undu .. good one !
With mixture, kadala, an unidentified edible object and one kola pazham, boarded Bolero. pazham malsarichu thinnu ellaarum.
Offered one to Jins sitting in the back seat.
He said "Vaayil irikkunnathu theerattedaa thendeee..." and grabbed it.
:D
on the way back, saw a mountain tip on fire. Stopped there.
Couldnt take a snap. Was not clear. By then the kola was kaali.
kola-thandu avide oru marathel ketti thookki :)
Then non-stop drive back to Bangalore.
For dinner, had chicken roll from BTM.
Kiron had paneer roll.
Then juice from a kannada hotel.
Dropped all at home.
End of a successful Trip.
next trip - Nandi Hills. in search for a catchword... Any suggestions ?
