It has been a while, since we got to see a nicely directed fresh movie. Jab We Met classifies as one! Competing with the likes of SRK (Om Shanti Om) and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya, this movie has come out as a clear winner. When
Soo had sent the first shots of a list of movies, this movie was opted out by many in the group. Particularly Gasper. But he ended up watching it 2nd time. With us, y'day (Dec12). The 10PM show at PVR.
Breaking the tradition, we reached the theatre with 10 minutes to spare. Something is seriously wrong with the guys. For the movie 'chocolate' (thats Malayalam, not the Hindi one) we reached the Galaxy theatre in Bommanahalli enroute Begur, a full 15 minutes before the show time! Phew.
When a movie starts with a low profile, it has the advantage that even if it flops, there wont be much of noise around it. Jab We Met was publicised in a good way alright, but not many favor the combination of Shahid Kapur and Kareena Kapoor for unknown reasons. Personally, Shahid is one of my favorites, due to his dancing skills. Who cares if his lower row teeth is seriously disorganised ! Kareena has had a short stint (?) with Shahid in the real world. And during the release time, there was all sorts of drama done - Shahid-Kareena split, Saif-Kareena affair - and what not.
Well, getting straight into the movie, its a sheer confusion in the beginning, when it starts. Reminded us of Matrix (basically, anything that cant be understood, can be termed 'Matrix' :D ). The hero walks out from what looked like a board meeting, fully shattered, and walks aimlessly. Abandons his car, mobile, pager. Gets into the first bus. Lands up in the railway station. Walks into the train. And gets cozily seated on a seat. All this happening in more than 10 minutes. But the hero hasnt spoken a word yet.
To compensate for the lack of talk all this while, enters our heroine. She sits facing the hero, and opens her chatterbox. After having discussed almost everything on earth, when she started discussing about the moon, the hero decided. Enuff is enuff. Time to react. Thus, he opens his mouth and pours out all his anger onto her. What started on an angry note, ends up in an unexpectedly bonding friendship - between a guy who lives life in an organized planned serious manner, and a gal who sees life as it comes and is unaware of the existence of the word 'serious'.
The movie picks up pace and before too long, it was displayed 'interval' on the screen. Perhaps, post interval, the movie got into a bollywood shade. But still, entertaining, it was, all the while. All the scenes and sequences were superbly stitched together. Camera work was good. Acting was good too. There was good comedy sequences too. Perhaps, the only thing that seemed out of place was the last song 'Mauja Mauja'. But the popularity and the picturisation of the song made up for it.
A movie not to be missed. And as always, dont go to the movie with high expectations.

Tail
1. Sitting in the 2nd row from the screen was a lil uncomfy. But very soon, all of us got involved into the movie (Gasper slept for some time past interval), and it was not a problem to us :)
2. The song, 'Yeh ishq' looked very nice, and the locations were good too. Like how DCH boosted traffic to Goa, this movie might do some good to Manali...
3. This was the 3rd attempt to watch the movie. The
1st time, it was a 12km biking that ended up in kicking. The 2nd time, the website said, its no use going all the way - it was sold out!
